The Challenge
Roof lanterns are beautiful. Until the sun comes out.
A roof lantern floods your room with natural light, and that is exactly why you chose it. But on a sunny day, that same glass can turn your kitchen or extension into a greenhouse. The temperature climbs, the glare makes it hard to see screens and surfaces, and UV light fades your furniture and flooring over time.
Standard blinds are not designed for overhead glazing. They sag, they cannot cope with angles, and most need manual operation that is simply impractical when the glass is three metres above you. Roof lanterns and skylights need a purpose built solution.
That is exactly what motorised cellular blinds are designed to do. They sit neatly inside the rooflight cavity, operate silently at the touch of a button or remote, and give you full control over heat, glare, and privacy without losing the architectural beauty of your lantern.
The Lantern Mark II
A lantern blind, not a roof blind adapted to fit
Every lantern and skylight blind we fit is the Lantern Mark II. It was designed for overhead glazing from the start, and it works quite differently from the roof blinds most people have seen.

What you won't see: cords or tension wires
The great majority of roof blinds are held taut by fine drive cords and tension wires running the length of each blind. Without them the fabric would sag away from the glass. They do their job, but when the blind is retracted they're still there, stretched across your glazing in full view. On a roof you spend a lot of time looking up at, that spoils the very thing you put the glass in for.
The Mark II carries the fabric in its own rigid frame instead of on wires. Up to 2,000mm wide it needs no support cables at all, so when the blind is open you're looking at your glass and nothing else.
When the ends of the opening aren't parallel
A conventional tension roof blind fixes to the two short ends of the opening, and it relies on those two ends being parallel to one another. In a lot of skylights and lanterns they aren't, and no amount of care in fitting gets round that.
The Mark II's frame fixes to the long sides of the recess instead, so the blind sits parallel to the roof line rather than taking its angle from the two ends. That also leaves a proper space between the fabric and the glass, which helps warm air circulate on a sunny day.
The frame is part of the design
Each blind sits in its own 45mm white frame. That border is visible around the opening once the blind is in, and it's not trim we could leave off: the frame is what carries the blind, holds it square and keeps it clear of the glass. It's also why the Mark II is so much simpler to install than a system that has to be built into the opening.
