Registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office

When you ask us for a quotation, we end up knowing a fair bit about you. Your name and contact details, the rooms you are renovating, photographs of your windows, sometimes a bank reference when a deposit is paid. We think the least we owe you in return is to look after that information properly, and to be straightforward about how we do it.

Part of that is being registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent data protection regulator.

What ICO registration actually is

Any UK business that handles personal data has a legal duty to register with the ICO and pay an annual data protection fee. It is not an award, a certificate of merit, or something a business is granted after passing an inspection. It is a straightforward legal requirement, and a business that processes personal data without registering is breaking the law.

We tell you this plainly because you may see other companies describe their ICO registration as a “certification” or an “accreditation”. It isn’t one. What registration does give you is a public, verifiable record: our entry sits on the ICO’s own online register for anyone to check, which tells you who we are, where we are, and who to contact about your data.

Our registration reference is ZB581919, held by Rocknowe Interiors Limited, trading as The Scottish Shutter Company and The Scottish Blind Company.

What we actually do with your data

Registration is the floor, not the ceiling. The work that matters is what happens day to day, so here is the short version of ours:

  • We collect less. We only ask for the information we genuinely need to answer your enquiry, prepare a quotation, fit your blinds and look after you afterwards. We don’t buy lists and we don’t ask for details “just in case”.
  • We keep it in the right place. Customer information lives in purpose-built systems (our CRM, our accounting software and our email), not in stray spreadsheets or on personal devices.
  • We don’t keep it forever. Contract records are kept for seven years because HMRC requires it. Enquiry data, where no order follows, is deleted well before then.
  • We never trade it. We don’t sell your data, we don’t rent it, and we don’t share it with anyone for their own marketing.

David Browne is our named lead for any data protection question, request or complaint. You can reach him at privacy@scottishshutters.co.uk or on 0800 086 2989, and you can ask us at any time to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it.

If you’d like the full detail, our Data Protection page explains our principles, lists every third party that ever touches your data, and links to our formal Privacy Policy.
