Shaped Window Blinds

Specialist shading for bespoke window shapes

Triangle windows. Arched fanlights. Gable ends. Skylights. Conservatory roofs. If your window has an unusual shape, we make a blind that fits it precisely, motorised and remote controlled.

The Problem We Solve

No window too difficult

If you have a triangle window, an arched fanlight, a gable end, or any glazing that is not a standard rectangle, finding the right shading solution can be a challenge. Standard blinds are made for standard shapes. Off the shelf products do not fit, and specialist shading options for bespoke window shapes require experience and the right products.

This is our speciality. We manufacture bespoke motorised cellular blinds that are shaped to match the exact geometry of your window, whatever that geometry is. Every blind is built to millimetre precision from a template we take during the survey, powered by a quiet Somfy motor, and controlled by remote, wall switch, or smartphone app.

The fabric is 25mm or 32mm honeycomb cellular material. It traps insulating air in its cells, reducing heat loss and providing A++ level thermal performance. It also absorbs sound and filters light beautifully. And because it stacks to the slope rather than bunching at the top, the blind disappears almost entirely when retracted.

Window Shapes We Cover

Every shape, every angle

If you can glaze it, we can blind it. Here are the most common shapes we work with.

Triangle & Gable Windows

The most common shaped window we fit. Whether your gable is symmetrical or has unequal slopes, the blind is made to match. Motorised operation is essential because these windows are usually out of reach. See our gable blind guide.

Arched & Curved Windows

Period properties and churches often have arched windows or semicircular fanlights. We can shape cellular blinds to follow the curve, or for a permanent solution, shaped shutters with fixed or moveable louvres that trace the arch precisely.

Apex & Pointed Windows

Tall apex windows with a point at the top are a feature of many modern builds. The blind follows both slopes to the peak. When retracted, the fabric stacks along the slopes and the window is fully clear.

Skylights & Roof Windows

Overhead glazing lets in welcome light but also unwelcome heat and glare. Motorised blinds on guide wires or tracks sit flush against the glass at any angle, from vertical to fully horizontal. Remote control means no climbing.

Conservatory Roofs

The original application for cellular blinds. Each panel of the conservatory roof gets its own motorised blind, controlled individually or as a group. The insulating honeycomb cells make the biggest difference here, turning a room that is too hot in summer and too cold in winter into comfortable living space.

Roof Lanterns

Kitchen extensions and orangeries often feature a roof lantern. We fit motorised blinds to both the flat and sloped sections. The blind sits close to the glass on tension wires, neatly out of the way when open. See our lantern blind guide.

The Technology

Motorised cellular blinds built for difficult windows

Every shaped blind we install is a motorised honeycomb cellular blind from MasterBlinds, powered by Somfy IO motors. The 25mm or 32mm cell traps insulating air between you and the glass, and the fabric is available in translucent or room darkening options.

The blind runs on precision guide wires tensioned between the headrail and the sill. It tracks smoothly along any angle, from a gentle slope to a steep gable pitch. When retracted, the fabric pleats stack against the slope rather than bunching at the top, so the window stays clear and the blind virtually disappears.

Operation is by Somfy remote control, wall switch, or through the TaHoma smart home app. You can also integrate with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home. Schedule your blinds to open at sunrise and close at sunset without lifting a finger.

25mm Cell

Compact profile for smaller shaped windows. Neat folds, minimal stack height.

32mm Cell

Required for Shaped

Mandatory for shaped and angled windows. The wider cell holds the fabric taut on the guide wires and gives better insulation performance on larger glazed areas.

Somfy IO Motor

Whisper quiet, reliable, and smart home compatible. Battery or mains powered depending on the installation. We programme everything during fitting.

Common Questions

Questions about blinds for shaped windows

Can you really make a blind for any window shape?

We have fitted blinds to triangles, trapezoids, circles, arches, pentagons, and irregular shapes with no two sides the same. If the window has glass in it, it is likely we can make a blind that fits. A word of caution though. Just because an architect has designed a striking window shape does not always mean a functional blind can be made for it. The mechanics of how a fabric blind stacks, tensions, and operates place real limits on geometry that pure architecture does not. Shutters are different. With shutters, we can make panels to fit virtually any shape, because the louvres sit in a fixed frame. With blinds, we are honest with you at survey about what will genuinely work and what will not.

Do shaped blinds have to be motorised?

At a reachable height, manual operation with a telescopic pole or cord is possible and reduces the cost. But the vast majority of shaped blinds we install are motorised, because most shaped windows are gable ends, apex windows, or skylights that you cannot operate by hand.

What happens when the blind is retracted?

The fabric pleats stack neatly against the slope of the window. Unlike a roller blind that bunches at the top and blocks part of the glass, a cellular blind folds flat and follows the angle. When fully retracted on a gable window, you see the full window with just a slim headrail and some tightly stacked pleated fabric.

How much do shaped window blinds cost?

It depends on the window size, shape complexity, and whether the blind is motorised or manual. And honestly, there is no such thing as a typical gable window. As a very broad guide, a motorised cellular gable blind for a domestic window typically falls somewhere between £1,200 and £3,000 including VAT, with larger or more complex shapes higher again. The fastest way to get an accurate answer is to send us a photo of your window with rough dimensions. We will come back to you very quickly with a price and, just as importantly, a feasibility view on whether a blind is the right answer for your window, whether a shutter would work better, or whether a combination of the two is the best solution. Send us a photo.

Can you do a shaped shutter instead of a blind?

Yes. For arched windows, a shaped shutter with fixed or moveable louvres is an excellent option, and sometimes the only option where a blind simply will not work reliably. Shutters stay in the window permanently and give you ongoing light and privacy control. We can advise at survey on whether a blind or a shutter is the better choice for your specific window. See special shape shutters.
