Luxaflex DuoMotion

The blind designed for tilt-and-turn windows

A hybrid system that finally solves the tilt-and-turn problem. The top profile is motorised, controlled by app or remote, or simply pushed by hand. The bottom profile is manual. Side-tensioned cords keep the fabric flush to the glass, even when the window is fully open.

The Problem

Why tilt-and-turn windows defeat most blinds

Tilt-and-turn windows open in two ways. They tilt inward from the top for ventilation, and they turn fully inward on a side hinge like a door. They are common in modern Scottish homes and almost universal in apartments built to continental specifications.

They look elegant, but they are unkind to window dressings. The handle sits in the middle of the side jamb, so a standard recess-fixed roller blind fouls it. The sash tilts inward, so any blind hanging loosely will swing out as the window opens. The window turns fully into the room, so a free-hanging blind has to be tucked behind it every time the window is used.

DuoMotion was engineered specifically for this window type. The cords run along the sides of the blind under tension, so the fabric stays neatly against the glass whether the window is closed, tilted, or fully turned. The handle never gets in the way. There are no cords on the face of the fabric to catch on anything.

How It Works

One system, two ways to operate

The top profile is motorised

Set your preferred position from the PowerView app or remote. Or, if you are already at the window, simply push the top profile up or pull it down by hand. The motor releases and re-engages automatically. No pairing screens, no fiddly cords.

The bottom profile is manual

Move the bottom rail up or down by hand whenever you want to. This is the part you use less often, so paying for a second motor adds cost without adding daily value. DuoMotion gives you motorisation where it earns its keep.

A perfect close, every time

When you ask the blind to close fully, the top profile drops all the way down, then rises a fraction to seat the closure perfectly. There is no misalignment gap at the meeting point. The window is fully covered, every time.

The Benefits

Why DuoMotion works so well

Designed for tilt-and-turn

Side-tensioned cords hold the fabric flush to the glass. The handle is unobstructed. The blind stays in place when the window is tilted or fully open. This is the only Luxaflex shade engineered specifically for this window type.

PowerView ready

Schedule by time of day or by local sunrise and sunset. Build scenes like Morning, Privacy, or Evening to match your daily routine. Control by app, voice (Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home), or remote.

Manual override, always

Forget the remote. Phone battery dead. Visitor closes the blind on the way past the window. None of it matters. The top profile can always be pushed by hand, and the bottom is manual by design.

Top-down, bottom-up

Lower the top profile to let daylight in while keeping the lower half private. Raise the bottom for the inverse. Tall windows benefit hugely from this kind of independent control on the upper and lower halves.

Affordable motorisation

A fully motorised top-down bottom-up shade needs two motors and complex tensioning. DuoMotion motorises only the top profile, where the convenience matters most. You get smart control at a fraction of the price of full motorisation.

Clean, refined look

Cords on the sides, not the front. A slim profile that sits neatly inside the window recess. Hardware available in six colours to match the frame, the wall, or the architraving. Nothing competes with your interior.

Common Questions

Questions about DuoMotion

How is DuoMotion different from a standard Duette PowerView blind?

A standard Duette PowerView blind has one motorised rail and operates from the top down only. DuoMotion adds an independent manual bottom rail and the side-tensioned cord system that keeps everything flush to a tilt-and-turn window. If your windows tilt or turn inward, DuoMotion is engineered for them. If they are casement or sash windows, standard Duette is usually the right choice.

What is a tilt-and-turn window?

A tilt-and-turn window has a single sash that opens in two ways. Turn the handle one way and the top tilts inward for ventilation. Turn it further and the whole sash opens inward like a door. Common in modern Scottish homes, apartments, and any property built to continental window specifications.

Will it block the window handle?

No. The cords run along the sides under tension and the fabric sits inside the recess, so the handle is free to turn. You can operate the window without lifting the blind out of the way.

What happens if the battery runs out?

You can still operate the blind by hand. The top profile responds to a gentle push or pull regardless of motor state, and the bottom rail is manual anyway. Battery life is typically months, and the PowerView app tells you when it is getting low.

How tall a window can DuoMotion cover?

Up to 230 cm (about 7 feet 6 inches). For taller windows, we would discuss alternatives at the survey, either splitting the window into two blinds or recommending a different Luxaflex system.

Can I see DuoMotion before ordering?

Yes. Visit our Design Studios in Dundee or Edinburgh to see the mechanism and feel the fabrics, or book a home consultation and we will bring the samples to you. We are Scotland's only official Luxaflex Gallery Dealer.
