Glasgow

Shutters that suit the architecture

From sandstone tenements to modern apartments, Glasgow homes deserve window treatments designed for the way they are actually built. We measure, supply, and install across Glasgow and the west of Scotland.

The Architecture

Every window tells a different story

Glasgow's architecture is among the finest in Britain. From the grand sandstone terraces of the West End to the elegant villas of Newton Mearns, from Mackintosh influenced townhouses to the modern apartments rising along the Clyde, every building has character and every window has its own requirements.

We have fitted shutters in hundreds of Glasgow homes and we understand what works. The tall sash windows in Hyndland tenements need a different approach to the wide picture windows in a Bearsden bungalow. A bay window in a Shawlands villa needs panels cut to precise angles. A modern apartment in Finnieston needs clean, minimal shutters that complement the architecture rather than compete with it.

Every shutter we make is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your window. Nothing is off the shelf and nothing is adapted to fit. The result is a shutter that looks like it was always meant to be there.

Shutter Styles

The styles that work best here

The right style depends on your windows, your rooms, and how you use them. These are the styles we fit most often in this part of Scotland.

Full Height Shutters

Our most popular style

Panels run from the bottom of the window to the top, giving clean, unbroken lines. With a mid rail, the top and bottom louvres tilt independently. The ideal choice for tenement sash windows where you want privacy at street level and light from above.

Cafe Style

Ground floor flats and street facing rooms

Shutters cover only the lower half of the window, leaving the top completely open. Perfect for ground floor flats on busy streets where you need privacy without losing any of the light from the upper window.

Tier on Tier

Maximum flexibility for living rooms

Two independent sets of panels, one above the other. Open the top for light and close the bottom for privacy, or any combination. The ultimate flexibility for tall period windows.

Special Shapes

Arched, bay, and unusual windows

Arched fanlights, deep bay windows, circular portholes. Every shutter is manufactured to the exact geometry of your window. If the window has a shape, we can shutter it.

Materials

Four materials, each with a purpose

Premium Timber

Widest colour range. Perfect for living rooms and bedrooms. Our most popular choice.

Composite

Hardwood louvres with an engineered frame. Excellent value for whole house installations.

Waterproof PVC

100% waterproof. Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, and high humidity rooms.

Aluminium

Security with style. Lockable panels for ground floor windows and patio doors.

Common Questions

Your questions answered

How much do window shutters cost in Glasgow?
The cost of window shutters depends on the size of the window, the material, and the style. As a guide, a standard window in premium timber shutters typically starts from around £400 to £600 including measurement, supply, and professional installation. Composite shutters offer excellent value at a lower price point. We provide a detailed written quotation after your consultation with no hidden costs.
What type of shutters work best for Glasgow tenement windows?
Glasgow tenement windows are typically tall sash windows, often with a deep reveal. Full height shutters with a mid rail work beautifully in these windows. The mid rail lets you tilt the top and bottom louvres independently, so you can have privacy at street level while keeping the top open for light. For ground floor tenement flats, cafe style shutters covering only the lower half are another popular choice.
Can you fit shutters to bay windows?
Yes. Bay windows are one of the most popular installations in Glasgow homes, particularly in Victorian and Edwardian properties in the West End, Shawlands, and Newton Mearns. Every shutter panel is made to measure for the exact angles of your bay. The result is a seamless fit that follows the window line perfectly.
Do shutters help with noise from busy Glasgow streets?
Shutters create a solid barrier at the window that helps reduce external noise, particularly when the louvres are closed. While they are not soundproofing, many customers on busy Glasgow roads notice a real difference in street noise. Combined with secondary glazing, the improvement is significant.
Are your shutters suitable for listed buildings and conservation areas?
Yes. Interior shutters sit inside the window reveal and do not alter the external appearance of the building. This makes them an excellent choice for properties in Glasgow conservation areas such as the West End, Park Circus, and Great Western Road. No planning permission is required for interior shutters.
How long does it take to get shutters fitted in Glasgow?
After your home consultation and confirmation, manufacturing typically takes 10 to 12 weeks for timber shutters. Our Decora range, assembled in the UK, can be delivered in around 2 weeks for time sensitive projects. Installation day itself usually takes a single day for most homes.
