Aberdeen

Shutters for the Granite City

Aberdeen's granite architecture deserves window treatments designed for it. We measure, supply, and install across the city and Aberdeenshire. Home consultations with full size samples.

The Architecture

Silver city, distinctive windows

Aberdeen's granite buildings are unlike anything else in Scotland. The silver grey stone, the deep window reveals, and the quality of north east light create conditions that demand careful consideration when choosing window treatments.

We have fitted shutters across the city and Aberdeenshire. The grand terraces of Rubislaw Den and Queen's Road. The Victorian villas in Cults and Bieldside. The granite townhouses of Old Aberdeen. The modern developments at the waterfront and Countesswells. Each property has its own character and its own requirements.

Every shutter we make is manufactured to the exact dimensions of your window. Nothing is off the shelf and nothing is adapted to fit. The result is a shutter that looks like it was always meant to be there.

Shutter Styles

The styles that work best here

The right style depends on your windows, your rooms, and how you use them. These are the styles we fit most often in the north east.

Full Height Shutters

Our most popular style

Panels run from the bottom of the window to the top, giving clean, unbroken lines. With a mid rail, the top and bottom louvres tilt independently. The deep reveals in granite homes make full height shutters look particularly striking.

Cafe Style

Ground floor and street facing rooms

Shutters cover only the lower half of the window, leaving the top completely open. Perfect for ground floor rooms on busy streets where you need privacy without losing any of the light from the upper window.

Tier on Tier

Maximum flexibility for living rooms

Two independent sets of panels, one above the other. Open the top for light and close the bottom for privacy, or any combination. The ultimate flexibility for tall period windows.

Special Shapes

Arched, bay, and unusual windows

Arched fanlights, deep bay windows, circular portholes. Every shutter is manufactured to the exact geometry of your window. If the window has a shape, we can shutter it.

Materials

Four materials, each with a purpose

Premium Timber

Widest colour range. Perfect for living rooms and bedrooms. Our most popular choice.

Composite

Hardwood louvres with an engineered frame. Excellent value for whole house installations.

Waterproof PVC

100% waterproof. Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, and high humidity rooms.

Aluminium

Security with style. Lockable panels for ground floor windows and patio doors.

Common Questions

Your questions answered

How much do window shutters cost?
The cost depends on the size of the window, the material, and the style. As a guide, a standard window in premium timber shutters typically starts from around £400 to £600 including measurement, supply, and professional installation. Composite shutters offer excellent value at a lower price point. We provide a detailed written quotation after your consultation with no hidden costs.
What type of shutters work best for granite homes?
Aberdeen granite creates a distinctive silver grey backdrop. White and off white shutters create a classic contrast that works beautifully against the stone. For a warmer feel, painted shutters in soft grey or taupe complement the granite without competing with it. The deep window reveals common in older granite properties are ideal for shutters, giving a clean, recessed look.
Can you fit shutters to sash and case windows?
Yes. Sash and case windows are among our most common installations. The shutters sit within or around the window frame and do not interfere with the sash mechanism. You can still open your windows as normal. For tall sash windows, we often recommend a mid rail so the top and bottom louvres tilt independently.
Do shutters help with energy efficiency in older properties?
Yes. Shutters create an insulating barrier at the window, reducing heat loss in winter and keeping rooms cooler in summer. In older properties with single glazed or draughty windows, the difference can be significant. Many customers notice a real improvement in warmth and a reduction in heating costs.
Are shutters suitable for listed buildings and conservation areas?
Yes. Interior shutters sit inside the window reveal and do not alter the external appearance of the building. This makes them an excellent choice for properties in conservation areas. No planning permission is required for interior shutters.
How long does it take to get shutters fitted?
After your home consultation and confirmation, manufacturing typically takes 10 to 12 weeks for timber shutters. Our Decora range, assembled in the UK, can be delivered in around 2 weeks for time sensitive projects. Installation day itself usually takes a single day for most homes.
