Can Window Shutters Be Fitted To Any Window?

In short, the answer is yes!

If you’re thinking about enhancing your home with shutters but have a window you think will make it impossible, think again. Window shutters are extremely versatile and can improve the privacy, security and energy efficiency of your home no matter what shape, size or angle your windows are.

Here at The Scottish Shutter Company, we love nothing more than a challenging window to put our expert shutter-fitting brains to the test. Read on to find out more about choosing window shutters for your home…

All About Shutters

Let’s start with the basics – What are shutters?

Shutters are covers fitted to the inside or outside of your windows, made up of horizontal or vertical slats (louvres).

With a wide range of designs available to suit all personal tastes and home design styles, shutters are an increasingly popular choice of window covering. And whether you opt for full-height, tier-on-tier, solid panel or cafe-style shutters, the major benefits include…

  • Ultimate light control.
  • Increased privacy.
  • Enhanced security.
  • Improved thermal efficiency.
  • Noise reduction.

Challenging Windows

We’ve been designing, creating and installing made-to-measure shutters for over two decades and know that not all windows are rectangular or square.

In fact, we’ve installed bespoke shutters to some amazing and unique spaces in both new, old, commercial and residential properties. You might think your bay, porthole, triangular or angled windows can’t get shuttered, but they can!

Without getting all technical, the clever design of shutters means we can craft them to fit your challenging windows to perfection, work flawlessly and complement your home. To us, there is no such thing as a challenging window, just an opportunity to provide you with quality window shutters that will last for years to come.

How Do We Make Your Shutters Fit Perfectly?

It’s a four-step process…

1. We Come To You

Seeing the window space is the key to success in creating shutters, especially if you have a challenging window. We’ll arrange a no-obligation home visit with a highly skilled team member at a time that suits you to discuss your requirements, assess the window surround and take precise measurements.

2. Clear Quotation

Following your home visit, we’ll produce your individual quotation. Your quote will include all the details about your shutters so you know exactly what you’re getting for your money. What you see is what you’ll pay, with no nasty hidden extras once the job is complete.

3. Manufacturing

If you’re happy with your quotation and give the go-ahead, we will start work on making your shutters to order here in the UK using specialist craftsmen and top-quality materials. Giving you peace of mind that your new window shutters will be of a high standard.

4. Expertly Fitted

Once your shutters are ready, our skilled fitters will bring them to your property and install them in your challenging window spaces. They’ll treat your home with utmost respect, clearing up as they go and ensuring your shutters are working as they should before leaving.

Dorothy’s Story

Having been told by other local window covering companies it wasn’t possible to have shutters fitted to her challenging windows, Dorothy contacted us following a recommendation from one of her neighbours.

Our nearest showroom was a five-hour round-trip from Dorothy and Neils’s home – so armed with samples, we went to her.

There were several challenging windows that required shutters, including four tall ones, a trapezoidal gable, two bays and a set of patio doors that needed French door cut outs.

Other considerations were…

  • Insulation from coastal weather.
  • Increased privacy from a public footpath.
  • Maintaining sea views.
  • Colour matching to the existing paintwork.

Discussions had and measurements taken, our designer set to work on our computer-aided design (CAD) software to achieve vertical and horizontal alignment of the shutters on each window. This ensures the shutters not only fit to perfection, but also look aesthetically pleasing when viewed from the inside and outside.

Once ready, we sent the files to Neil and Dorothy, along with an introductory video of ourselves to say hello.

A couple of questions later, with the couple’s minds completely at ease about their investment, they gave us the green light to go ahead. Once constructed, we installed their new shutters. Each complimented their challenging window spaces and fitted to the nearest millimetre, giving Neil, Dorothy and their home the finishing touch they were after.

“All the shutters and blinds fitted perfectly. A full explanation of the shutter operation was given. We would highly recommend the Scottish Shutter Company. We are absolutely delighted with the quality of the shutters and the stunning finish it has given our windows.”
