Installation Warranty

When purchasing anything to be fitted in your home or commercial premises, it is wise to check that the company and or individuals carrying out the work hold sufficient insurance cover for your protection. In our industry, many apparent company representatives are, in fact, self-employed and the installation element of the fitting becomes a separate contract between you and whoever is carrying out the work. They may or may not carry sufficient insurance cover.

At the Scottish Shutter Company, everyone you have contact with is a full-time employee of the Company. The contract to supply and install your shutters is with Rocknowe Interiors Ltd., trading as The Scottish Shutter Company. The Company and our employees are covered by our Company’s insurance policy, a summary of which is attached.

We have a £5 million cover for public liability (i.e. to you, our customer).
Also, even though we do not directly make the products we sell, we still carry a £5 million product liability. As employers, we have £10 million of cover.
Hopefully, it will be comforting to know that you are dealing with a professional window blind and shutter company – The Scottish Shutter Company.

Ultraviolet Bleaching & Fading

Window shutters are the first line of defence against the sun’s harsh rays and, particularly, against ultraviolet light (UV). This (invisible) light causes most of the bleaching of your soft furnishings. It’s not just on sunny days, though. Colour fading occurs on most surfaces when exposed to natural daylight.  Visible light and solar heat also cause objects to fade over time.

The technical term for this fading is photodegradation.

There is a misconception that glass reduces unwanted radiation. Clear glass actually admits over 70% of the sun’s UV rays into a room and onto your shutters. Even highly efficient energy-efficient windows will only reduce this to around 60%.

Unlike most window shutters, SSC window shutters are coated with a UV resist to help reduce the effects of the sun on the actual shutters themselves.

However, the UV-resist coating can best be described as a resist. Nothing under the sun can ever be fully UV-proof.

You can help reduce the effects of UV on your shutters by regularly varying the angle of the louvres and occasionally wrapping the panels back into the room. However, remember that if you do wrap the panels back, the ultraviolet light will then be able to reach the soft furnishings in your home. Most of these do not come equipped with a UV-resist as your SSC shutters do.

The solar heat produced by the sun also has an effect on your shutters over time.

A trademarked wood drying technique dries the wood used to manufacture our shutters to emulate the environmental conditions of the location where the shutters will be installed here in the UK. This practice also reduces post-installation shrinking and swelling. However, over many years the wood will change its look.

We offer three to five-year warranties against accelerated fading of the paintwork or drying out of the timber on your shutters.
