Motorised Blinds
Open with your voice. Close on a schedule. React to the sun. Motorised blinds from Luxaflex and Somfy bring effortless control to every window in your home, from the easy to reach to the impossible.
Why Motorise?
Motorised blinds are not a luxury gadget. They solve real problems. Windows you cannot reach (gable ends, skylights, stairwells) need a motor because there is no other way to operate them. Large, heavy blinds on bifold doors move smoothly with a motor where they would be awkward by hand. And for homes with young children, removing all cords and chains is the safest option available.
Beyond the practical, motorisation brings your blinds into your smart home. Schedule them to open with sunrise and close at dusk. Create scenes: 'Good Morning' opens the bedroom blinds gently, 'Movie Night' closes the living room. Control everything from your phone when you are away, giving the house a lived in look while you are on holiday.
We install two motorisation platforms: Luxaflex PowerView for the full Luxaflex blind range, and Somfy IO for our shaped and specialty blinds. Both integrate with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home. We programme everything during installation so your scenes and schedules work from day one.
Our Motorisation Platforms
We match the motor platform to the blind type. Both systems are premium, reliable, and smart home ready.
The motorisation system built into the Luxaflex range. PowerView motors fit inside the headrail of Duette, Silhouette, Pirouette, and roller blinds. Rechargeable battery packs mean no wiring and no electrician. The PowerView app gives you full control with scenes, schedules, and room groupings.
Spring Promotion
Complimentary upgrade to PowerView electric on selected Luxaflex products until 31 May 2026. Excludes PowerView accessories. View the offer.
The motor platform for our shaped and specialty blinds. Somfy IO powers the motorised cellular blinds we install on gable windows, skylights, conservatory roofs, and roof lanterns. These are high torque motors designed for large, angled, and overhead applications where PowerView is not available.
Where Motorised Blinds Make Sense
Gable ends, stairwell windows, high level glazing, and vaulted ceilings. If you cannot reach it by hand, a motor is the only practical solution. No ladders, no poles, just press a button.
Bifold door blinds, wide picture windows, and floor to ceiling glazing all benefit from smooth motorised operation. A motor moves the blind evenly and consistently every time, protecting the mechanism from the wear that manual operation causes on large blinds.
Motorised blinds have no cords, no chains, and no accessible mechanisms. They are the safest window covering available for homes with young children and pets. Every Luxaflex PowerView blind is cord free as standard.
Skylights, roof lanterns, and conservatory roofs need blinds that operate at any angle from vertical to horizontal. Motorised blinds on guide wires or tracks handle this effortlessly. See lantern blinds.
"Alexa, close the bedroom blinds." Schedule blinds to respond to sunrise and sunset. Create scenes that adjust multiple rooms at once. If you are building a connected home, motorised blinds are the window layer of your automation.
For anyone with limited mobility, motorised blinds remove the need to reach, pull, or twist. Voice commands and app control mean you can manage every window from your chair, your bed, or wherever you are in the house.
Common Questions
Not usually. Both PowerView and Somfy IO offer rechargeable battery options that require no wiring and no electrician. For permanent installations (conservatory roofs, large commercial projects), hardwired power is available and we can coordinate with your electrician if needed. Read our wiring guide.
A PowerView battery pack typically lasts 6 to 12 months on a single charge, depending on blind size and how often you operate it. Recharging takes a few hours via a USB cable. Somfy battery packs last a similar period and recharge via a dedicated charger we supply with the blind.
Both systems include a physical remote control that works independently of your WiFi network. You will always be able to operate your blinds even if your internet is offline. The remote uses radio frequency, not WiFi, so it works regardless.
Both PowerView and Somfy IO motors are designed to be whisper quiet. You will hear a gentle hum when the blind moves, but it is not disruptive. Most people are surprised by how quiet they are.
Motorisation typically adds £150 to £300 per blind depending on the product and motor type. For shaped window blinds where motorisation is essential, the motor cost is included in the standard price. We always show the motorised and manual options side by side in your quotation so you can choose. See our pricing guide.
