We catch the window-shading mistakes your architect doesn't know to look for.

"Most design-stage mistakes cost nothing to fix on paper and thousands to fix after the plaster's up."

Architects design beautiful windows. We have spent 39 years living with the consequences. We know what happens when a cavity is too shallow for a concealed blind, when there is no motor cable run before the plasterer arrives, or when the reveal depth rules out interior shutters entirely.

A short conversation at the design stage saves you thousands later. We review your plans, flag potential issues, and make sure every window is ready for whatever shading solution you choose.

Ensuring space for concealed blinds and shutters

The Pitfalls of Leaving It Too Late

1

Tilt and turn windows

Standard blinds and shutters cannot clear tilt-and-turn mechanisms. The window choice needs to account for shading from the start.

2

No provision for concealed blinds

Concealed blinds need a cavity above the window. If it is not designed in, the ceiling has to come down to retrofit one.

3

Gable windows with no power

Motorised gable blinds need a single cable to a fused spur at the apex. Without it, there is no way to shade the window.

4

Bay windows with uneven reveals

Shutters need consistent plaster depth across the bay. Uneven reveals mean visible gaps or frames that will not sit flush.

5

Awnings and external roller screens

External shading needs structural fixings and power. It is far cheaper to install while the scaffolding is still up.

6

Velux windows in vaulted ceilings

Motorised skylight blinds need power routed to the window before the ceiling is lined. Retrofitting means tearing into the finish.

7

Wrong frame choice for blinds

Some window frames cannot accept blind brackets. The glazing bead profile or frame depth may rule out your preferred option entirely.

8

Insufficient reveal depth

Interior shutters need a minimum reveal depth to fold back properly. Too shallow, and the panels block the window when open.

"Every one of these problems costs money to fix after the fact. A conversation with us costs nothing."

Timeless Elegance, Total Control

Interior shutters are the only permanent window covering. Unlike blinds or curtains, they become part of the architecture of your home, adding value and character that lasts decades.

Why plan early for shutters

  • Reveal depth must be sufficient for panels to fold back
  • Bays need consistent plastering for flush frames
  • Special shapes need templates after plaster, but planning before
  • Frames can integrate with the window design from the start

TruFit vs Perfect Fit

Not all window-mounted blinds are created equal. Here is what you need to know before choosing.

Perfect Fit (Bead Fit)

  • Metal brackets clip into glazing bead
  • Can distort or dislodge gaskets over time
  • May affect glazing warranty
  • Not suitable for all frame profiles

Warning: Some bead-fit systems apply pressure to the glazing gasket, which may void your window manufacturer's warranty. Always check before committing.

TruFit

SSC Standard
  • Bonded directly to the glass unit
  • Nothing drilled into the frame
  • Fully removable and re-positionable
  • No pressure on gaskets or seals
  • Works with virtually all frame profiles

Motorised gable blind covering a triangular window

Motorised Gable Blinds

Triangular and trapezoidal gable windows are one of the most striking features of a new build, but without planning they become impossible to shade. Our motorised gable blinds follow the exact angle of the roofline, operated by remote control or smart home integration.

Electrician note: One cable to a fused spur at the top of the gable, before first fix. That is all it takes.

Custom shaped shutters fitted to a gable window

Shaped Shutters

Arched windows, circular windows, and other special shapes can all be fitted with bespoke shutters that follow the exact contour of the opening. Each panel is individually made to measure using templates taken from the finished window.

Planning tip: Send us your architect's drawings and we will confirm what is possible. Templates are taken after plastering, but the design conversation should happen well before.

Awnings & External Shading

Extend your living space outdoors and control solar gain before it reaches the glass.

Retractable Awnings

  • Motorised with wind and sun sensors
  • Up to 6 metres projection
  • Integrated LED lighting options

External Solar Screens

External Roller Screens

  • Block solar heat before it reaches the glass
  • Motorised with wind protection
  • Discreet cassette when retracted
  • Ideal for south-facing glazing

"Get the fixings done while the scaffolding is up. It saves hundreds in access costs later."
